And so on this edition of All Songs Considered, the best of September.

And we begin with MPR Music's Marisa Liruso.

This month I could not stop listening to the new album by Adalia.

It's called One Hand on the Steering Wheel, The Other Sowing a Garden.

This record is the sophomore release from songwriter Alexander Levy.

And she says that the album is like a personal history map of the city of Montreal where she's from.

To me, the album really feels like a collection of short stories.

It's full of these vivid, scene-setting details and narrators who are working through

emotionally complicated situations.

There's a really lovely range of sounds on the album too.

Some of the tracks are playful, some of them are a little dark,

some of them have like classic singer-songwriter sound.

But her voice and knack for details really makes the whole record feel cohesive and compelling.

The album begins at a New Year's Eve party and it ends sometime later with our narrator

on the highway headed home.

That last track, Hurt, is really beautiful.

It's filled with both indecision and then ultimately acceptance.

I think it's a beautiful testament to the journeys and stories on this record.
