The point of putting us in this ocean of space and telling us that because we are children,

we are heirs of all things is not that we will fall in love with possessing stars, but

that we will comprehend if possible the incomprehensible love of God.

So what should we feel when the benefits of Christ's love for us are presented to us?

Whatever it is, that's what John Piper wants you to feel from 1 John 3-1 in this episode

of Light and Truth.

The sermon was originally preached at Bethlehem Baptist Church on April 9, 1995.

Now this really is a third step in the demonstration of the love of God and you need to feel it as

a going beyond what we often talk about.

I mean, God might have said, my son is too valuable to die for angels, let alone die for humans,

let alone die for humans who are rebels and sinners and ungodly and hate me and run from me

and ignore me and neglect me and use foul language to talk about me.

My son is too valuable for that.

He might have just said, no, but he didn't.

He gave his son and he gave him for enemies, but think of this.

He might have said, all right, I am a God of love and I will save them from death and

I will save them from sin and I will save them from hell, even at the cost of my son

and even though they are enemies and I will give them eternal existence on a planet that

I have prepared and I will communicate with them through angels and meet their needs

and stay in heaven where I am because they are humans and they were once wicked and could

have done it that way.

And that would have been awesome love, that would have been incomparable love, that would
