Welcome to Political Thinking. I'm recording this a week after I stood on the balcony of

a leisure centre in Islington looking down on the diminished figure of Jeremy Corbyn,

my local MP who'd come to the count knowing that his political hopes and dreams were

to end. And this week we began to process the scale of Boris Johnson's success.

Of course the first 100 days were very busy, 140 days or whatever it was. You may remember

it was a very frenetic time, but you ain't seen nothing yet, folks. We're going to have

to work even harder because people have a high level of expectation and we must deliver

for them. How many new hospitals are we going to build? 40? Correct. How many more nurses

are we going to hire? You know the answers. How many more police? You are correct. You are

cool. But there is a huge, huge agenda. A huge, huge agenda.

What I think many people have underestimated is the scale of Boris Johnson's ambitions.

The use of that language, the people's government, the talk of a new government, the talk of

a one nation government, isn't attempt to try to push out of everybody's minds that this

is already a fourth term conserved with government. It is already a government that's been in

office for nine years. What Boris Johnson is doing is rebranding in the way that Tony Blair

did with new Labour. Saying to people, no, this is the year zero. This is a government

that hasn't been in for any time at all and is sure of all the baggage, particularly

the baggage of austerity of the recent past.

Thank all the people, all the people of Sejfield, Mr. Auckland, Mr. Stokton South,

Mr. Darlington. There's no mere chance that the first visit outside London of the newly

elected Prime Minister after polling day was to Tony Blair's old seat in Sejfield where
