0:24.2	Today on Murder Minute, I'm bringing you the story of a deadly string of attacks that
0:28.5	terrorized the DC Metro area for three agonizing weeks in 2002.
0:35.3	But first, your true-crime headlines.
0:40.5	The City of Loveland, Colorado, has agreed to pay a $3 million settlement to a 74-year-old
0:46.2	woman with dementia who was thrown to the ground by police officers after she was suspected
0:51.5	of shoplifting.
0:53.8	The incident occurred in June of 2020, when Walmart employees called police to report that
0:59.6	a woman had walked out of the store without paying for her items, valued at less than $14.
1:07.2	When police approached the woman, 74-year-old Karen Garner, they flung her to the ground,
1:13.1	dislocating her shoulder and breaking her arm.
1:16.6	She did not receive medical attention for her injuries for six hours after the incident
1:21.6	took place.
1:23.6	The two officers who arrested Garner both resigned, as did the community service officer
1:28.9	who booked her and allegedly denied her medical care.
1:32.5	Two of those officers are now facing criminal charges stemming from the arrest, which
1:37.2	was captured on their body-worn cameras.
1:40.4	Former officer Austin Hopp is facing assault charges, and former officer Darya Jalali is
1:45.8	charged with failing to intervene or report a case of excessive force.
