Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis which makes up about 65%. Arthritis can affect the hands, feet, hips, knees and the spine. We will talk specifically about knees and hips.

In this episode, Dr. Niket Sonpal will discuss some of the most common features of osteoarthritis, management of this condition nonsurgically. But, if your patient does need surgery, when to refer for a total hip/knee replacement.

One of my favorite things to do is look at the marketing medications and how these marketing teams see the human body,

assume what we know as general consumers,

and how pain is interpreted by the suits in the boardroom.

For example, if you have a sinus congestion, they'll show that famous side-facing see-through

guy with kind of an x-ray, it's just basically a mouth, a long tube, and a circle in the middle.

And what they'll do is they'll show green gunk inside the sinuses, or they'll show little

bacteria running around with eyes and legs.

Another great example which hits home for me personally

is if you have heartburn, they make it look like there is fire in the stomach.

This one's my personal favorite,

because heartburn is supposed to be in the chest but they

show the stomach because drug companies want to condition consumers to remember

it's their intake that did this thus if you eat a lot which all Americans love to do when we are the gold medalists in, then

this pill will fix it all.

But we know there are numerous causes of GERD, and we know that discomfort is chess pain pain but again they show fire in the stomach.

But I save the best for last.

The most famous is the over-the-counter medications targeting pain relief.

It's a myriad of medications. Do we want to use

N-Seds or Cedaminophen? But it's always the same person they show. It's a

random, non-descript middle-aged person with joint pain who just can't take their grandchild or child for a walk or teach them how to ride a bike.

They then zoom in on the joint and show red emanating lines from the joint.
