The supreme blessing that we are promised in the New Testament is that when we are in heaven,

we will see God face to face. We call that the beatific vision, the vision that will flood

our soul with the highest degree of blessedness imaginable.

Perhaps the most well-known sermon ever preached was the Sermon on the Mount, and the section

typically referred to as the Beatitudes. Despite how well-known it is,

it is largely misunderstood by so many. So over the next several weeks, R.C. Spro will help us

understand the early portions of the sermon on the Mount. Welcome to the Sunday edition

We look today at Matthew, chapter 5, verses 1 through 4.

And seeing the multitudes, he went up on a mountain, and when he was seated, his disciples

came to him, and then he opened his mouth and taught them saying, Blessed are the poor

in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn,

for they shall be comforted. Before I look at the text itself, let me just give a little bit of

introduction to it.
