Good evening, children. It's Granny Madduff, ready with a story. So make yourselves comfy, and I'll begin.

Once upon a time, there lived a family of acorns. They lived in the woods, and there were quite a few of them.

They were a large family, brothers and sisters, cousins, aunts and uncles, grandmas and grandpas.

Town was not far away, and they visited often to buy and sell their goods.

Another family lived in the woods as well, the walnuts.

They were a large family just like the acorns.

These two families, as close as they lived, were the greatest of enemies.

All members of each family were forbidden to see or speak to anyone from the

other. In fact, if they did run into one another, they would battle. The townsfolk, pecanes, almonds,

peanuts, chestnuts, macadamias and cashews, were growing tired of having to dodge out of the way of the nuts fighting.

They would throw twigs and pebbles and wood chips, anything they could find.

It would become nuts mayhem.

But now the town's folk were finished.

They called a meeting and insisted the two heads of the families

end the fighting and mend fences.

We will never be friends!

They shouted.

The townsfolk explained that they didn't need to be friends, but the fighting must cease,

or neither family will be welcome in town.

So they agreed to a truce.

As long as no walnut stepped foot on acorn territory and no acorn stepped foot on walnut territory,

they would not fight if they ran into one another in town.
