On the podcast today, we have got an episode of our sibling podcast Warfare.

It's all about military history folks, military history from the early modern to the 20th

century, presented by James Rogers and this episode he talks to Saul David about the battle

of Okinawa.

One of the last great battles of the Second World War fought on the island of Okinawa.

When US troops landed on the 1st of April 1945, it was the largest single amphibious

assault in the Pacific Theatre of World War II.

It was savage, savage battle lasting 100 days, but it was decided that Okinawa was essential

for the final operation downfall, the invasion of the Japanese homelands, which would have taken

place after it.

Never of course happened because the dropping of the nuclear bombs in the Japanese surrender.

But Okinawa is only about 500 kilometers away from the Japanese homelands.

For this podcast, James talked to the brilliant Saul David.

He's been on my podcast many times and now it's great to have him on Warfare.

He's a professor of military history at the University of Bucky and he's just written

Crucible of Hell about this campaign and he is a wonderful, wonderful guy.
