It's been hard to miss all the buzz about generative artificial intelligence or AI to you and me.

But every day it seems like more and more AI tools are hitting the market, claiming to make you the next Picasso or Monet, even if drawing a stick figure is a bit of a stretch for you.

The problem is many of these art tools are, quote, trained on the work of other artists, usually without their consent. In other words, AI platforms

scan the web for art, and hold on to the data about those works. Then they generously borrow

from the styles of other artists and can generate works that look very much like they were

created by those same artists. Borrow? Many say steel. They skirt, if not entirely cross the line,

into copying others' work without giving a bit of credit or payment to the artist who's worked

the platform mimicked. Worse, these tools also threaten the livelihood of working artists

because they can produce images cheaply and quickly. But where there's an AI problem, it's usually not too long before there's an AI solution,

or at least one that purports to be.
