A gorilla-like man with abnormally long arms, with deep-set black eyes, which waver and flutter wildly,

is under arrest today, charged with the murder of Miss Sarah Elizabeth Brownell,

68, and Mrs. Alfred Bennett, 56, in a cellar of a quiet, dignified rooming house at 38 prospect place.

But as police working at top speed attempt to clinch a case against him,

there came to light the possibility that there is a third victim, a 20-year-old girl. She is Evelyn Di Martino of 16 Lincoln Place,

the same house in which Mrs. Bennett lived. The girl, last June 30th, went to 28 Prospect Place to

visit Miss Brownell. She hasn't been seen since.

The two murders were brutally fiendish.

The women's bodies were cut up, wrapped into bundles,

and thrown in all sorts of out-of-the-way places.

One part was found Saturday in Battery Park, Manhattan.

Another was found yesterday on a church lawn, two blocks from the Prospect Place house.

A third was found stuffed behind an iron fire escape of a theater.

And this noon, a fourth bundle was found in the BMT railroad yards

at 36th Street and 5th Avenue. Bit by bit, the police have pieced together the story against the man.

He is a Norwegian, four years in the country, 38 years old, flammatic, stolid, furtive. He has denied every

bit of the story, but it is weaving an almost perfect circumstantial chain against him.

His name is Ludwig Halverson Lee. He's a carpenter by trade, but a handyman about houses, sort of janitor.

He has worked for Miss Brownell off and on for two years.
