afternoons sitting in my cozy recliner and I find it rather difficult to get through editing these stories without falling asleep.

It is several hours before dawn when the baker rises from his bed of dried reeds and down feathers. He's always been a morning rabbit. He loves the quiet of those

dark hours before anyone else is awake.

Growing up in a rabbit Warren

with 26 brothers and sisters,

and sisters, silence was non-existent,

and simple quiet was vanishingly rare.

The baker learned early in life that if he woke up before the

sun had stretched itself from its own bed, he'd get at least an hour, sometimes too, all to himself.

Now he rises for a different reason.

Though it is likely no accident,

he was drawn to a vocation that requires him to continue his long ingrained habit.

Bakers have to be up before the sun, every single day without any hiccups at all. A bakery must be filled

with new pastries, new breads, new muffins.

The air has to be infused with the aroma of fresh sourdough.
