Hi, I'm James, host of Dakota Spotlight, and I want to tell you about season 13 of the show starting May 7th.

It's titled The Bagpiper and His Brother, a five-part series about the criminal activities of two curious and eccentric characters.

In the Minneapolis suburb of Edina, Minnesota, there's an ice arena that's been there for six decades,

and it hasn't changed that much since its construction.

It's the same wooden bleachers. They've been painted.

Kids still learn to skate there.

Generations of skaters and hockey standouts have passed through the place.

It is rich hockey history.

You can almost feel those former coaches, former players there still.

But another history echoes there in the rafters and on the ice,

echoes I've methodically chased and tracked from North Dakota to Montana,

Illinois, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Dakota.

In The Bagpiper and his brother, I tracked the lives and crimes of Lloyd and Wallace Brenna,

two American men who appeared to live normal family lives, but behind the scenes were mixed up in a long list

of troubling behavior, including wiretapping, the attempted assassination of an IRS agent,

false identities, an unannounced midnight landing on a South Dakota air strip, a love triangle

bombing, and a bunch of stolen loot, everything from

cigarettes to a saddle, to bicycles and bagpipes.

This is original reporting based on documents I've collected over several years, a previously

untold story from the heart of America, both tragic and at times unbelievable and a little quirky.
