Behind Norland's French Quarter, along Basin Street, between Canal Street and St. Louis Cemetery No. 1.

Once existed, a fabled neighborhood that's long since disappeared.

And it was there that curious, provocative items, from the past, began to be unearthed.

At the end of 2013, teams of archaeologists began excavating this small section of New Orleans,

where they uncovered hundreds of thousands of artifacts.

Among the most numerous were antiquated whiskey bottles, and time-worn rouge pots.

Also, pains takenly revealed were dozens of French perfume bottles, a tattered hermonica

read and accordion key, primitive heroin syringes, containers of medicine once used to treat venereal disease,

vaginal cleansing nozzles, plungers for self-administering medication, dozens of opium bottles,

countless antique buttons, and human teeth.

Additionally, extracted from century old toilets, buried deep in the earth, were found three pistols,

including a Colt 45 and Smith & Wesson 38, as well as six gruesome-looking knives,

weapons presumably tossed in an effort to avoid discovery by the police.
