Good morning, I'm Ali Velshi. It is Sunday, June the 6th, and we are watching the insurrection against our government continue to unspool in real time, right in front of us.

Donald Trump's big election lie led a violent mob to attack the U.S. Capitol five months ago today.

The goal of the insurrectionists was to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

They did not succeed that day five months ago,

but they are still trying. The pro-Trump extremists who stormed the Capitol that day,

chanting, hang Mike Pence, did not manage to stop the certification of the election results.

They didn't overthrow the government, but Trump and his cult-like followers are not giving up.

They're trying other tactics.

The insurrectionist former president is openly talking about being, quote, reinstated to the presidency this summer,

reportedly because the foam pillow guy told him so.

The disgraced former president, in fact, appears in a fundraising video for the Republican Senate campaign arm, promising to return to power, quote, sooner than you think.

We're going to take back the Senate, take back the House, we're going to take back the White House, and sooner than you think it's going to be really something special.
