Christianity has a lot of bad ideas in it. Now that might not be news to you, whether it's the

sexism, the promotion of slavery, anti-Lg LGBTQ narratives, there's a lot of bad stuff for us to talk about. So let me talk about

one that particularly gets under my skin. Turn to Matthew chapter 5 verses 10 and 11.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of 5 verses 10 and 11.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of their righteousness,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people insult you,

persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because

of me.

Now this comes from a section known as the Sermon on the Mount and it's supposedly one of Jesus's most inspirational teachings.

In fact, I've heard people describe it as the most inspirational teaching of all time,

but let me ask, is this really a good lesson it's basically telling

Christians to expect to be persecuted as if it's a foregone conclusion like it's

it's it's something to be proud of.

Hey man, they're just persecuting you because of how righteous you are.

It teaches believers to hyper-tune their attention

to the slightest of perceived offenses and blow it up into ridiculous proportions

because, well, they're righteous. And that must mean that they're being persecuted because if they're not being persecuted, do they

really know that they're being righteous?

And this isn't the only time the concept is talked about in the Bible, and often than not it is attributed to Jesus

himself whether it's Matthew 24-9 or John 1520 or 2nd Timothy 3 12 and there's a lot more. This is the ideology that leads to so many

Christians believing they are constantly under attack and worse it instills and fosters an us versus them mentality
