Summary

Today we look at the killing of Hamas’ political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran.

Haniyeh was involved in negotiations to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza strip. His killing came hours after an Israeli strike on a Hezbollah commander in Lebanon and raises fears of wider conflict in the Middle East. Adam speaks to international editor Jeremy Bowen and chief international correspondent Lyse Doucet.

We also discuss the arrests that followed disorder in Southport on Tuesday night with north of England correspondent Judith Moritz.

0:22.3	New in November 2023 that while Hugh Edwards was suspended
0:26.8	he had been arrested on suspicion of serious offences and released on bail.
0:32.0	At that point no charges had been brought.
0:35.0	And the BBC says they were also made aware
0:37.0	of a significant risk to his health.
0:40.0	Then he was not charged until after he'd left the employment of the BBC,
0:46.2	but the organisation says they had a policy in place that if he had been charged while he was still
0:51.0	an employee, they would have acted immediately to dismiss him.
