Hi there, welcome back to another short episode of High Performance where myself and

0:06.5

Damien Hughes sit down and just discuss stuff that you've either messes us about, things that

0:11.2

we've been thinking about, or maybe a comment or a

0:14.0

moment with a guest that has really sort of peaked our interest and Damien has

0:17.4

just returned from a lovely summer break off to Canada with the family and

0:21.3

Damien you were listening to a bunch of

0:23.5

podcasts while you're on your break which has kind of informed the conversation

0:27.6

that you want to have. Yeah so I've really been enjoying listening to David

0:31.4

Senra's Founders Notes podcast and he has this great line that he uses

0:36.0

repeatedly where he says the public praise people for the practice they do in private. So what he means is like if you listen to the Jay-Z episode he talks about how

0:45.3

Jay-Z was writing rhymes and raps from about the age of 12 that every opportunity he he got he speaks about how he spent three

0:55.1

summers in his bedroom right in at least five wraps a day and he talks about he

1:01.6

didn't actually end up recording until he was nearly 26.

1:05.0

So people saw him and thought he was this prodigiously talented guy.

1:10.0

But his point was we praised people for the practice that they do in private.

1:14.0

He spent 14 years getting his craft to that level.

1:18.2

And it's a theme that we see so often, Jake, from all our guests that we often talk to them about the outcomes but what we're also interested in is the

1:27.5

process that it's taken to get there and the stuff that happens in the shadows is what really intrigues me.

1:35.0

Now I think this is really really interesting because when a certain theme or a certain message

1:39.6

keeps on coming up time and time again from various high performance you have to stop and

1:43.1

listen to it and I remember you remember the NFL linebacker Ray Lewis yeah yeah something

1:48.1

of a legend I remember a quote from him the hardest thing to do is work hard when no one's watching.
