podcast. My guest this week is Joseph Todorovich.

Joseph is a figurative painter from Southern California.

He's an accomplished draftsman and painter.

Joseph teaches figure and drawing and painting lessons from his studio in the historic downtown Pomona.

In this episode, Joseph and I talk about making beautiful lines and the beauty of being absolutely present and attentive while

drawing. Joseph considers himself a perpetual student. We talk about the

concept of maintaining the student mindset.

And he reminded me of a quote by the Japanese master,

Katsushika Hokusai, and I hope I'm pronouncing that correctly.

This quote by Hokusai was something that was read to me in college as well and I had completely

forgotten about it so I had to look it up and read it so that I can share it with you too because

it is fantastic. After sharing a story about seeing a

drawing in the halls of his alma matter at Cal State Fullerton Joseph shares his

thoughts on what makes a good draftsman. We talk about the simple eloquence that comes from the simplest of tools,

which is just plain old burnt wood or charcoal and paper. Joseph is currently preparing for

a solo show at Maxwell Alexander Gallery in Los Angeles later this year.
