Summary

In this first episode: Arsenal Women will bid to win the WSL Continental Tyres Cup for the 6th time in 8 seasons when they face Manchester City in the final at Bramall Lane on Saturday. This is a repeat of last year’s final, which the Gunners won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Vivianne Miedema.

Our Arsenal Women correspondent Tim Stillman looks ahead to that game with the help of Arsenal centre half Leah Williamson. Leah talks about Arsenal Women being ‘feared and respected’ again, Vivianne Miedema, the threat that City pose and she contemplates her 7th cup final as an Arsenal player before her 22nd birthday.

Leah also talks about growing up as an Arsenal fan, interrupting a family holiday in Cornwall when she was 9 so that she could be Arsenal’s mascot and about Petr Cech taking the women’s team out to dinner on Monday night.

Tim also provides a preview to give a bit of context and there is full information on how you can watch the game on Saturday at 12.15pm.

Hello and welcome to this special edition asked cast with me Tim Stillman. Looking ahead

0:23.9

to Saturday's Continental Tires League Cup Final between Arsenal Women and Manchester

0:28.9

City Women at Bramall Lane, what on earth is the Continental Tires League Cup Final? I hear

0:34.2

you ask, well let me explain. The Continental or it's known as the Conti Cup really but

0:40.7

whenever I say the Continental Cup people always ask me if that's some kind of European competition

0:45.4

and it's not, it's just that it's sponsored by Continental Tires and really what it is

0:50.5

is a loose equivalent of the League Cup in men's football. It's not strictly a League Cup

0:55.7

because only the top two divisions take part in the women's game because the gap between say

1:01.3

the second tier and the third and fourth tier is just so pronounced that it's, it would barely even

1:06.3

be a competition and quite frankly even the gap between the top tier and the second tier is

1:11.4

quite pronounced. It starts off with a group stage and Arsenal had Lewis, Charton Athletic and

1:18.3

Mill Wall Lionesses in their group and Arsenal beat Lewis 9-0, Charton Athletic 5-0 and basically half

1:26.3

of their academy team beat Mill Wall Lionesses 3-1 in a bit of a dead rubber so it's still not in

1:31.4

its early stages the most competitive of tournaments but that's what it is it's kind of, it's taking the

1:38.3

place of the League Cup. It was rebranded in 2011 you know just as a different form of the

1:48.9

League Cup when the sponsorship all changed and the women's super League was launched they relanched

1:54.7

the League Cup as well in sponsorship with Continental Tires so it's the League Cup in all but name

2:02.3

really and Arsenal as you are probably no doubt not surprised to hear an incredibly successful

2:09.0

in this competition since it's 2011 rebranded Arsenal of 1-5 out of the 7 Continental cups

2:17.8

losing in the final in another one and prior to the rebrand they won it 10 times as the League Cup

2:24.2

so they won it 15 times overall so Arsenal are quite handy in this competition

2:30.8

I spoke a little bit about what happened in the group stages Arsenal also played West Ham and
