Each and every day the chiefs take the practice field. We're going to jump on here. Have a quick chat in the mornings to keep you guys up to date on all the headlines for the Kansas City Chiefs and all the news and it is in fact game week. We've got real life football on Thursday night is the Kansas City Chiefs will take the field against the Detroit line. And so I mean welcome in Pete Sweeney Sweeney get a head to Arrowhead here in a little bit for another day, a chiefs practice is they continue their preparation for their week one matchup. Yeah, this is a new thing.

We're doing we're doing this year and I think Steve we found that a lot of people were really enjoying the training camp reports. So we're going to be doing a version for the regular season and you nailed it not only is it game week for short game weeks. So we're here on a Monday, Labor Day, but three days from now it will be a first regular season game and it's just crazy how time flies it especially when the chiefs are playing to like mid-February now. You really don't get that much of an off season. This game really fast.

1:28.0

But I know fans are very excited for it. Yeah, it is a holiday and we are grinding it out working for you guys because it is game week and me and Peter ready to go we are we are ready to be dedicated to the Kansas City Chiefs until February for you guys. So I hope you appreciate it.

There's a lot of stuff to get caught up on from over the weekend and we're getting to injuries and kind of talk about what we expect to see on the practice field today. But let's start things off with Chris Jones who has still not reported to the Kansas City Chiefs.

2:02.0

We don't know if that's going to happen this week. I would imagine even if he showed up in the next two days that it's still pretty unlikely that we see him take the field on Thursday night.

2:13.0

Yeah, and we got new information on the whole situation over the weekend from pro football talks Mike Floreo. I know that a lot of people just want to throw it out because nobody in Kansas City is too big of a fan of Floreo.

2:27.0

But to me it very clearly came from the Chris Jones stamp of what the numbers were what they were seeking. I think you're starting to get a picture of what the stalemate actually is. I think the chiefs are looking at that last year.

2:39.0

They don't want to rip up the last year on the contract so they want to keep it at what it is this year. They want to add two years to the deal. And when you just look at the last two years specifically that's that that's about 27.5 per whereas it seems like the Jones side is looking at over the next three years and that would be 24 per.

2:59.0

So that's where you're seeing a disagreement in the numbers. I tend to think but we are just reporters and writers and podcasts producer Steve that if you know 24 27 million would be good with me, especially if it was somewhere that I had said over the years that I really likes to work.

3:18.0

But again, it's up to each and every play to make their decisions and Chris Jones is still not happy with the current offer quite clearly. We did not see him on Sunday, which would have been your football Wednesday in a regular week and it's tough to think that that Jones has any chance of planning against Detroit Lions.

3:37.0

And I know everybody is kind of sick about this conversation because we're talking about a team that's defending Super Bowl champions opening the NFL regular season and we spent the entirety of the summer with this being the biggest talking point for this team.

3:57.0

But I mean, we have to talk about it and until Chris Jones and until there's some kind of resolution, it's going to be something that we keep mentioning and at this point, I think it's pretty clear that players and coaches are kind of tired of talking about it.

4:14.0

They're just like, we want to focus on the game that's ahead. We're focused on the Detroit Lions and we're tired about talking about Chris Jones and Andy Reed, who really doesn't give you much.

4:25.0

Just I think if we can gauge anything from his recent comments, it just seems like he's annoyed with it all and he's just like, no, I'm ready to go play football games. I'm not worried about this. That's beaches department.

4:37.0

Yeah, it really seems like Andy has no more statements about it until he eventually shows up. I mean, you got that treatment yesterday where a couple people asked about it and you could tell when there are conversations that then Andy Reed doesn't really want to get into. You can get some more and more.

4:53.0

It's each question on it. So we got to about question three and you can just tell he just wants to talk about the players that are in the building. And I think you understand that a little bit more right now three days before game that maybe you did like during training camp and not wanting to talk about it.

5:09.0

But you could understand why the players would just want to focus on Thursday night. I had a question with George Carloppas in the locker room and asking about the extra attention he might get because one of the luxuries of playing next to Chris Jones is you see a lot of one-on-one matchups and Carloppas was like, I don't know if I'm going to get extra attention. Whatever they end up doing, I'm going to have to deal with it.

5:33.0

And it's true. I mean, you know, we're asking these guys and even they would never admit it because players support each other. But you could just tell is it's a slight distraction at this stage. And I think everybody is looking for some kind of resolution so you can move on and focus on the game.

5:47.0

Yeah, if there's a positive that I think chief fans can take away from this whole situation, it's that they got a lot of reps for the young guys.

5:57.0

And we're going to see what those guys are made of going against a very good Detroit Lions team on Thursday night. And I know most people are probably like, it's the Lions. Why would we be worried? But this is a very good Detroit Lions team that has a very good offensive line.

6:12.0

So it's going to be a tough task for the Kansas A Chiefs defensive line. But we're going to see what some of these young past rushers are made of for the Kansas City Chiefs until they figure this thing out and they get their star defensive lineman back in the building and figure out how long it's going to take him to be ready to go for the regular season.
