Let's get into the mix.

Here are your Washington headlines of the day. Number one, Congress drops the ball on spending bills once again.

Number two, what we learned in Arizona's primaries. And number three, a new Senate bipartisan duo takes on child care.

All right, Jake, let's get into it. We are leading Punchball News AM with a look at how the

Senate is about to leave for the August recess. And so we're taking stock of what happened with

the annual appropriations process. And the short answer is, it is a mess once again. The House has

only passed five of the 12 fiscal year 2025 spending bills.

House Republicans pursued a party-line strategy of pushing for huge spending cuts,

culture war policy riders, instead of working with Democrats.

Meanwhile, the Senate Appropriations Committee will have approved 11 of the 12 funding

bills by the time Senators skipped town tomorrow, all with overwhelming bipartisan support.

But none of those bills have been to the floor yet. So we are basically nowhere, Jake.

Yeah, that's, I know, Anna, it's early, but I want you to take a deep breath because you're so surprised about this, about the appropriations process already going off the rails.
