| 0:07.0 | ready to get your mind aligned with the truth of God. It is time for us to be ready |
| 0:12.2 | for this day, for us to live this day in light of God's presence and |
| 0:17.4 | his truth in our lives. |
| 0:19.4 | And we're doing so most recently trying to get our minds aligned by looking at 1st Peter chapter 5. |
| 0:24.4 | Now I realize these passages that we're looking at right now are very specifically |
| 0:29.3 | oriented toward leaders in the church. |
| 0:32.5 | But if you stop for a moment and think about the role of a leader |
| 0:36.4 | and one of the primary ways in which they serve, |
| 0:41.2 | you'll realize that leaders are to be examples. |
| 0:44.6 | There to be those who by example demonstrate what a mature Christian life is to look like. |
| 0:52.0 | And with that being the case, we can all learn something from the |
| 0:56.2 | instructions Peter's giving here to the elder, whether we are a church |
| 1:00.1 | elder or not ourselves, because these are the people to whom we are to look up to, |
| 1:05.3 | the people to whom we are to gain understanding of the Christian faith through the way that |
| 1:10.6 | they live it out. |
| 1:12.3 | And so what Peter instructs to them can definitely |
| 1:15.3 | be applied to our lives. Now Peter has been talking about the motives that come with a person who wants to be a church elder, rather the motives that might |
| 1:27.5 | motivate them to become a church elder. And now he's going to move into a section |
| 1:31.1 | saying something we are not to do as church leaders. |
| 1:34.7 | He's saying they're not to domineer over those in their charge, but to be an example to the |
| 1:40.9 | flock. |
