Summary

In a country where political division is being exacerbated by urban-rural divides, how can we increase mutual understanding? David McCullough thinks he has the answer in the American Exchange Project, which sends American high school seniors to different parts of the country the summer right after they graduate. Andrew sits down with David to talk about the project, progress that's been made, and the impact it's had so far. If the American Exchange trip becomes a new civic rite of passage, could we start to bridge the divide in the US? So David, one reason I love the American Exchange Project so much

1:12.1

is that I'd actually campaigned on something similar back in the day. I said, you know what, seniors in high school should be able to go someplace else in the country, maybe hang out in another town for a number of days and then they

would come back, they'd have new friends, a whole new perspective.

And everywhere I went, people were like, oh, that's a great idea.
