These illusions can spiral into delusion, dependency, and tragically self-destruction. Consider Pierre, a Belgian man in his 30s,

he suffered from eco-anxiety and turned to an AI companion named Eliza on the app called Chi. After

six weeks of daily conversations, thousands of messages, Pierre became convinced the bot

understood him. Instead of helping, the chatbot fueled his despair. At one point, Eliza even suggested

that sacrificing his life could save the planet. Soon after, Pierre took his own life.

In Britain, 19-year-old Jaswat Singh Chow developed a bond with a replica chapbot named Sarai.

Struggling with depression and possible schizophrenia, Chau believed Sorai was sentient,

and that she approved of his plan to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.

He exchanged thousands of messages with this AI confidant, who reinforced his delusions and his fantasy of becoming a Sith lord.

In 2023, he was convicted for plotting the attack.

And just last year in Florida, a mother filed suit against character AI after her 14-year-old

son died by suicide.

He had formed an emotional relationship with a chatbot modeled after a character on Game

of Thrones.
