Summary

Roberto Firmino is perhaps the defining player of Jurgen Klopp’s five years in charge of Liverpool. But, following the 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa, the Reds’ brilliant number nine was not spared criticism. Was that fair? Maybe, maybe not. But what is clear is that Firmino – and the other members of the club’s feared front three – has real competition for his place given the impressive strides made by Takumi Minamino since the start of the new season and by the big-money arrival of Diogo Jota. The good news is that Firmino will go into the Merseyside derby next weekend on the back of a couple of morale-boosting goals for Brazil. But, having netted just once in the Premier League since January (albeit three of those months were lost to lockdown), some have suggested his place is not as secure as it once was. So Matt Addison and Theo Squires tackle the subject in the latest episode of The Agenda. The Liverpool Echo sends a twice-daily Liverpool FC bulletin out via email with the all latest news, views and analysis from Anfield.
