Welcome into Tom Carlin's Patriots Talk podcast.

It is the aftermath.

It's the aftermath of Patriot 16-3, wild card round win over the Los Angeles Chargers,

which means this is not the only aftermath and the final aftermath. The next aftermath will be next week

because the Patriots have one more game. Phil, I look at this win, and I see complementary football.

Defense obviously was tremendous.

Offense understood its role, I think, to a large extent.

I think Drake May had a better game than just judging from our postgame live panel.

I think he played better than most others do because I'm kind of

grading them on a curve. And I think the coaching staff was outstanding in understanding the flow

of the game. Phil, your turn. I think you got to start with the defense here to only allow

three points. And I know the Chargers had obvious weaknesses on the offensive

line but you're still going against one of the best regular season quarterbacks in the NFL

Justin Herbert not shaking the reputation of being a less than quarterback in the postseason

still a small sample size but it's three games now and it hasn't been good.

And that was doing large part to what the Patriots did to him, I thought.

Were there some self-impulsion situations on LA's part?

Yes.

But I think New England really confounded and flummoxed Justin Herbert, who is one of the

best regular season quarterbacks in football. So you start there for me, Tom, and it really was all

three levels, I thought. Six sacks for the guys up front. A lot of blitzing that involved a lot of the linebackers, the linebackers and the front involved in holding the running backs to only two and a half yards per carry. And the secondary, I thought, played great. So really, you got contributions across the board from that side of the ball to hold the chargers to three points. They won the game for them tonight. Patriots head coach Mike Vrable on that defense.
