growing tension during the post-production work on the birds, Hitchcock took a week-long break to film his final effort

for television. By now, the Alfred Hitchcock Presents television show had become so successful

that it had been transformed into the Alfred Hitchcock hour, now occupying 50 minutes of television

time instead of 26.

The tale was named I Saw the Whole Thing and starred John Forsyth as a mystery writer who's accused of causing a fatal accident.

Defending himself at a trial, he proves that each eyewitness only saw what he wanted to see and is exonerated. In the final moments, he reveals that he was not in fact driving the car.

It was being driven by his pregnant wife, and fearing for her condition, he'd taken the blame

on her behalf.

The entire shoot ended up taking only four days, and Hitchcock practically left the entire post-production

to the crew, so disinterested had he become. His eye had once again been taken by a lady. This time,

one of the co-stars of the episode, Claire Griswold, the young wife of soon-to-be renowned director, Sydney Pollock.
