Summary

Mateusz Musialowski and Melkamu Frauendorf both enjoyed good debut seasons for Liverpool, but what comes next for the pair - and any other young talents that Liverpool want to sign after Brexit has made the regulations around transfers significantly more complicated? Matt Addison joins Guy Clarke for a post-season debrief at Academy level, looking back at the FA Youth Cup final defeat to Aston Villa and across the season as a whole, as well as picking out the individuals to watch over the next few months. They also pick their choices for the end-of-season Academy Awards, selecting the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and attacker in the U18 and U23 sides, plus the best player overall in each age group. Hello and welcome to the Academy Show here on the Blood Red channel as we look back on the end of the

0:14.6

season. I'm Guy Clark, Matt Addison alongside me. Last time we were speaking, we

0:19.0

were looking forward to the FA Youth Cup final unfortunately.

0:23.0

Liverpool didn't come away with the cup on that occasion, but we've still plenty to get through.

0:28.0

We'll have a bit of a look back on that.

0:30.0

We'll talk through the campaigns for both the under 23s and the under 18s as well as handing out our

0:34.8

awards for each position and looking ahead even towards next season.

0:40.0

As I say, Matt Addison is here with me and Matt the FA Youth Cup we had such expectations for it

0:46.5

didn't quite go to plan in the end. No not quite it probably wasn't the best performance

0:51.2

well it definitely wasn't the best performance we've seen from them to be perfectly honest and

0:55.4

Liverpool didn't quite do themselves justice in terms of the result I thought I

0:59.8

mean they went to know down within about 12 or 13 minutes but after that they did kind of

1:04.0

improvement and pick up but it's just a little bit too late I think the fact that

1:08.2

Aston Villa had a crowd in there there was about 4,700 Villa fans in there cheering their players on and I think we always thought that that might count against

1:16.2

Liverpool to an extent and obviously Villa have one or two exceptional young players as well.

1:20.8

So it was, yeah, it was one of those I think to one probably was just

1:24.8

about right I think Villa basically just kept Liverpool at arm's length for

1:28.4

the majority of that game and yeah it was it was unfortunate it's been a good

1:32.3

run through to the final but but the fact that they couldn't quite get over the line and get that trophy in the cabinet. It's a bit of a shame, but I'm sure all of the Liverpool players will have learned quite a lot from that nonetheless.

1:44.0

Yeah, no definitely there are a number of standout performers from Aston Villa as well and even

1:49.1

Liverpool though but I suppose even looking trying to get sort of positives from it.
