We all have those calls that haunt us.

There's not a 911 dispatcher alive who doesn't have at least one that sticks with them for the rest of their lives.

Hell, most have too many to count.

I always thought I was about that.

And I never let this job or those calls get to me.

I was tough.

And then September 12th happened.

I worked the night shift at a very rural county sheriff's office, a little over 1,200 square miles with the population of 31,000.

Not a lot. And the way of heinous crimes happened.

There were these out of the ordinary UFO calls every now and then.

But most of the time it was loose cows, car, deer accidents.

I'm sure to have a share of crazies.

That night.

That night my call was one of them.

It's about 301 in the morning.

My partner and I were watching reruns of 90 day fiance when the 911 call tones went off.

Totally routine.

Okay, I try to answer the phone faster than Anna because she has the quickest hands in the West when it comes to call taking.

And unfortunately this time I got it.

County 911. What's the address of your emergency?

Silence.

Hello, county 911.
