Summary

In this episode, Ben Pakulski explains why exercise isn't about effort, sweat, or chasing heavier weight. It's about creating a stimulus worthy of adaptation. Ben breaks down how biomechanics, tension over time, and precise muscle contraction dictate whether your body grows stronger or breaks down. You'll learn why slowing down accelerates results, how control beats intensity, and why breathing and walking are foundational skills most lifters ignore. If you want muscle growth, pain-free training, and predictable progress, this episode will change how you train forever.

5 Bullet Points:

  • Why biomechanics matter more than appearances
  • How tension over time drives adaptation

Hey everybody, Ben Bikolsky, Muscle Intelligence Podcast. I want to make this podcast a resource for men over 40 to understand how to train.

0:08.0

There's a lot of misinformation out there. In fact, this podcast was prompted or stimulated by a post I watched this week.

0:14.3

If some guy who's got a fantastic body trying to teach people in the gym how to train and I just like put my head out, my hand over my head.

0:20.3

And I was like, fuck, idiots leading the blind. And just get somebody's got a great body,

0:25.8

doesn't mean they know anything about exercise. And the thing I want you to know about exercise is

0:30.1

biomechanics, mechanics is the only objective thing in all of fitness. So everything else is

0:37.3

subjective. Everything is contextually relevant,

0:39.1

but movement, human movement is literally physics. It's literally measurable physics, which

0:45.2

means, yes, there is a right and a wrong way to train. This is not your opinion. It's not my

0:49.5

opinion. This is fact. Why is it fact? Because the muscles are little levers. And levers can be measured because

0:57.1

there's things called moment arms and there's distance away from the axis and there's the size of certain

1:02.6

pivot points, anchor points. We can measure mechanics. So while there's people out on YouTube telling you

1:10.6

how to train,

1:11.8

if they don't understand the physics of exercise,

1:15.5

the math of exercise,

1:17.6

they're just completely full of shit.

1:19.5

And because they look good,

1:21.0

like, man, this guy built awesome pecks.

1:22.9

He must know what he's doing.

1:24.5

No, he's genetically blessed, taking a shitload of gear, and all he's doing,

1:29.0

sure he's training hard, great, but maybe you're not him. Maybe you're not the same mechanical

1:35.0

person, and maybe you're not me, but I don't teach what works for me. I teach principles.
