Summary

Do you track any of your speaking metrics? Our guest today, Erick Rheam, says there are 5 key metrics to growing your speaking business.

Erick has been on the show before so you can revisit his story on episode 126 and episode 150. I brought him on to today's episode of The Speaker Lab to talk about the exponential growth he has had using certain key metrics. Specifically there are 5 key metrics he focuses on, and those metrics have taken his business from $15,000 to nearly $200k in under 4 years.

Even if you're already successful in your speaking career you'll learn plenty from hearing about Erick's metrics and how he uses them to gauge the health of his business. Tune in for those insights and more with Erick Rheam on episode 225 of The Speaker Lab!

THE FINER DETAILS OF THIS SHOW:

  • What are lagging indicators versus leading indicators?
  • How has he determined his $5,000 speaking fee and when does he raise it?
  • What are the 5 steps in his prospective gig pipeline?
  • How soon should you contact a prospect who shows interest in hiring you?
  • When does he stop everything and focus on generating leads?
  • What does it mean to him if no one books him from an event where he's speaking?
  • How many gigs does he aim to book from each of his speaking events?
  • Why you've got to be serious about the numbers if you want to be serious about speaking
  • And so much more!

Hey, what if I told you that there was a single marketing asset that you could use to book tens of thousands of dollars in paid speaking gigs before you even have a website?

0:10.2

Well, that tool exists.

0:11.4

And Dan Irvin, one of the speakers on our team, used it to book over $36,000 in speaking gigs without a fancy website or any social media presence.

0:19.6

Even better, we're going to teach you exactly how

0:22.1

to create that tool for your speaking business in under an hour. For a limited time, we're going to

0:26.9

be offering a free live training on how to build and use this marketing asset to start booking

0:31.9

paid gigs in just a few weeks. If you want to hear more, go to thespeakalab.com slash marketing.

0:38.5

on episode 225. And today we've got one of our fan favorites that is back. Before we get to that, though, I know I've mentioned this to you before. Have you attended one of our trainings yet? If not, you're missing out every single week. Every single day, in fact, we hope it's these free trainings, teaching you exactly how to find and book paid speaking engagements. We walk through our step-by-step process of exactly how to figure out who you should be speaking to, what you should be speaking about, how much you should be charging, where do you find these gigs? All of this we're going to walk through totally for free. You can check this out by going over to free speakerworkshop.com. Again, that is free speakerworkshop.com. So today we're going to be having Eric Ream join us on the podcast. Eric has actually been on

1:33.2

the podcast back in episode 126 and then again in episode 150. Eric is a very successful student

1:39.6

who's gone through our booked and paid to speak training materials and it's just done a phenomenal,

1:43.8

phenomenal job. So if you want Eric's full story, definitely go back to episode 126. And then in episode 150, Eric talked about how he leverages every single speaking gig he does and turns that into additional speaking gig. So a couple things that he does very strategically from stage that we talked through in episode 150. So

2:01.1

those are back in the archives. Go find those. And again, that's why you've got to subscribe

2:04.5

to the show. So you never miss any of this. But in today, today's conversation, we're going to

2:08.7

be talking with Eric about the importance of metrics in your speaking business. So we're going to

2:13.9

talk through five different speaking metrics that Eric tracks to determine the health of his business. We talk about how and why he tracks these metrics and what tools he uses. So we even talk about like, what if you're not a numbers person or a metrics person? Why do these numbers matter? So we get into a lot of different stuff that is really, really valuable. I think it's sometimes the dangerous for speakers is we just want to speak. We just like that part, but there's a business side of it as well. And if you don't know how to consistently measure and track the health of your business, your business is going to suffer. It doesn't matter how good of a speaker you are. So you want to make sure that you pay attention to these metrics in your business. Now, we had a couple little audio internet issues where things got a little laggy. So hang tight. We tried to fix some of those, but I just know there's a couple of those in there. But you're fine. You're good. You're good. Let's roll it. Here's my conversation with Eric Cream. Enjoy. Hey, what's on my friends? Graham Baldwin here.
