On today's show, people are worried about the NBA draft. Is it too shallow now with people going back to school? I got Maxwell from No Ceilings here to tell you that there's still some great talents with the 30th pick. This is Cooper Flagg and you're listening to Lockdown Mall, so all of them, all of five. I think that's a good question. Good morning, Isaac. All these changes, you know, I still got my dog Dwight Powell.

My name is Nick Engstead. Today's episode, I'm joined by Maxwell Bomback from Lockedon, NBA Draft with No Sealing, No Sealing, the No Sealing's Crew. There's dozens of you guys out there just roaming around, scouting around everywhere. We love it. To talk about the 30th pick, because there's a bunch of different names that we're going to go through, and I going to play a game called tell me about this guy tell me about this guy tell me about this guy Maxwell has scouted these guys and so we're going to go through because the mavs we talked a lot about the ninth pick mav's first pick in this draft talk a lot about the guards I talked yesterday about the different guards between you know michael brown and bray Burrys and all those guys, but we haven't spent a lot of time talking about the other first round pick that the Mavs got in the Anthony Davis trade. And so,

1:19.3

Maxwell, there are some, there's some concern from people, that guys are going back to school,

1:25.0

that the end of this draft is going to be a little bit more shallow than we had hoped because there's a lot of great guys at the top. But we've seen some guys decide to go back to school because the money in NAL has completely changed a lot of the dynamic for a lot of these guys. Is that something you're hearing that people are concerned about the end of this draft? 100%. I think I've been privy to some of the NAL dollar amounts throughout the course

1:47.6

of the year and what that was going to look like for players.

1:49.1

What's the biggest one you've heard?

1:50.0

It's not a surprise.

1:51.3

Oh, well, Thomas Howick is like out there that eight million total was what Florida paid him

1:56.7

to go back.

1:57.9

So but even even then like your top of the line stars are getting over $5 million. So you've got to figure with these guys, if you're someone who could conceivably be a first round pick or early second round pick, a college team is going to pay top dollar to retain you. And with the NBA, I think it's just so important to keep in mind for these players. It's not just about getting to the league. It's about getting that second contract in the league. That's where you're really going to make your money. So if you're entering on any sort of unstable ground, most of the time, it just makes sense to go back to school. And where I would say I'm optimistic, if I'm looking at this as a Mavericks fan, is I think throughout the course of this year, I've been a little bit lower on some of the guys that I thought we're going to go back. And I've been a little bit higher on some of these old guy, quote unquote, boring seniors that I think are a little bit more exciting than people are giving them credit for. So I feel pretty good if I'm picking around 30 in this draft still. There are going to be some good talents there. You mentioned some of the older guys. And you asked me, what do the Mavericks need?

2:52.1

Like, what's a need that the Mavericks have to kind of fill? And obviously, guard, we've talked a lot about the guards with the ninth pick. But shooting is a huge thing for the Mavericks. They've got Clay Thompson. They've got Max Christie. But other than that, like there's not a lot of real shooters. but Alex Caraband is a senior from Yukon, one of those old guys in the draft like he said.

3:10.0

Tell me about Alex Carabin is a senior from Yukon, one of those old guys in the draft, like he said. Tell me about Alex Caraband. Why is he, you know, why is he, I guess, staying in the draft or what kind of player would he, would he bring to the map? For sure. He's, he's a redshirt senior. So he's all out eligibility. He's, he's in. He's done. So with care there's no more COVID years we can't just like

3:24.7

add on yeah like we just always add another year on to some of these guys hey it's earlier today

3:30.5

rj lewis tried to go back to school so we'll we'll see where things end up you've been with two

3:34.5

NBA clubs hey who cares who cares what way it's going to figure it out so so caravan is a crew, 37.4% three point shooter, which I know might not sound like anything wild. But if you watch Yukon, the functionality of how he does it is what's really impressive. UConn runs a lot of NBA style sets where guys are coming off of screens, off pin downs, off handoffs. He has a much more diverse and well-rounded

3:59.7

shooting portfolio coming into the league than most players. So when you see that percentage,

4:04.7

it might seem a little, okay, you know, is that really a shooting specialist? It is. And he's

4:08.6

a career at 84.4% at the charity stripe 2, which for a college player is really outstanding. Anytime
