Welcome to the Vergecast, the flagship podcast of like the fifth row of apps on your smart TV.

0:09.3

I'm your friend David Pierce, and I'm sitting here reorganizing my Roku.

0:13.4

I end up doing this like once a year or so.

0:15.5

Usually, actually, it's around March Madness when I go to download the NCAA March Madness app so that I can watch college basketball,

0:23.2

only to discover that in this case I have 86 items on my Roku, and a bunch of them are things

0:29.7

that I've never heard of before. Like I have a freebie app. I don't think FreeVe exists anymore.

0:34.5

I have one called Fossum, which is just awesome with an F at the beginning.

0:39.3

What is that? I have an app that's called Purple. There's a thing here for the Food Network Go,

0:46.1

an HGTV go. I'm pretty sure those are not a thing. I have a deal or no deal app on my Roku.

0:51.5

Why? Basically, I assume my smart TV is like most people's, where my top

0:56.7

few rows are like the apps I actually use, and then the rest just becomes chaos. And so every

1:02.0

once in a while, I come in and I clean up chaos. That is not what we're here to talk about today.

1:07.1

This is my lot in life, and hopefully it's not yours. What we're going to do on the show

1:10.9

today is the annual Vergecast streaming draft. Once a year, we like to get together, and as a way of

1:16.3

kind of taking stock of the streaming industry, we do a draft. We see who can put together the

1:21.8

best collection of streaming services, which ones are going to succeed, which ones are going to

1:26.1

fail completely, which ones will be here, which ones won't be here, who's going to win, who's going to lose.

1:31.1

We're going to make a lot of bets about the next 12 months in streaming all on this episode.

1:36.1

All that is coming up in just a second, but first, a quick request for you.

1:40.5

So the Vergecast is nominated for a Webby Award, which means a lot to us. We've been

1:45.1

nominated for this in the past. And the reason we care a lot about this award is because it's voted on

1:50.0

by you. This is an award that you can give to us if you so choose. And so if you're willing to,
