The 20-25 legislative session is underway, and it doesn't seem there's going to be just one big idea that will define the next 45 days.

Legislative leaders have talked about affordability, which could mean taxes and housing.

There are bills dealing with immigration and refocusing higher education and limiting public unions.

Robert Gurkie of the Salt Lake Tribune said there is one issue that

stands out for him this year. It's energy. Obviously, every legislative session has a lot of

major issues. This year, we've got immigration, we've got housing. But the big issue that I see

emerging this session is energy. It's an issue that Governor Cox has talked about.

And it's an issue that Senator Stuart Adams used at the beginning of the session in his opening day speech.

We need to be positioned as a nation's nuclear hub, not only in power production,

but also in the key of supply chain, including mining, manufacturing, and

workforce development.

He really highlighted his desire to build nuclear reactors in Utah for the first time.

The reason that Senator Adams is so adamant that we need this energy is

there's this emerging artificial intelligence.

The demand for that is so overwhelming more than anybody ever really expected.

So the demand for energy is not just so Utahans can flip the light on and watch TV

and have their electric vehicles.

Senator Adams is couching this as we need to be leaders in the artificial intelligence movement.

The global arms race for AI technology is already underway.
