To paraphrase Dante from the movie Clerks, the Olympics

weren't even supposed to be here. The original city which was awarded the Olympics

wasn't St. Louis but Chicago. However, in 1903, St. Louis had scheduled

the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, which was supposed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Louis and Clark expedition.
