Hey, it's Terry Sebel Foy, your cheerleader of dreams. You know, for years and years,

0:09.6

my husband Roddy and I would always say that we were going to save money. In fact,

0:14.2

every January 1st, that would be the second New Year's goal on my list. First was always to get

0:19.3

closer to God. Second was to save money. Well, year after

0:23.1

year, I would never check that one off. Basically, we were no better off from one year to the next.

0:29.1

We were exactly the same. Well, it's heartbreaking to me to look back and think that if we had just

0:35.0

saved $20 a week, that's over $1,000 a year. What if we'd done that

0:40.8

consistently for 10 years? That's $10,000 that we would have accumulated from just skipping a

0:47.0

fast taco lunch every week. Well, to me, it's nuts to think about, but no, we stayed the same year after year just wishing we could save money someday.

0:58.0

Well, I remember actually hearing about a tribe in Asia who would yell curses at their enemies.

1:04.0

And the worst thing they could think of to yell was, may you stay in one place for the rest of your life? That was a curse. Well, I lived under

1:13.6

that curse for too many years because nothing changed, nothing improved, nothing got better.

1:19.4

Finally, I began to learn how to properly set goals. Oh, and real quick, that's your free download

1:25.8

this week. It's my goal setting crash course, and I'll explain later how to access that.

1:30.2

But anyway, back when I was learning how to set goals the right way, it wasn't enough to just say

1:36.0

save money.

1:37.3

I had to get specific about how much money.

1:40.1

I had to make it measurable.

1:41.8

I had to give it a deadline.

1:43.4

And then I had to think of specific

1:45.4

action steps that I could realistically take to achieve the goal. So I remember, I set a goal to save

1:51.9

$5,000 by December 31st. Well, I broke it apart into months. Okay, I need to save $420 each month.
