Three minutes after ten is the time.

And I wonder how many shows we've opened in the last few years by thinking that a quick glance over the Atlantic can simultaneously reassure us that things aren't quite as bad in Britain as they are in America, but also, of course, how quickly a country can fall.

America now reduced to a sort of bizarre pantomime in which Donald Trump's ever-dwindling band of supporters tell

complete lies on television about vote rigging or about investigations into ballots.

And even some of Fox News's most seasoned liars are now pointing out the lies of the

president whose lies had turned the liars at Fox News

into some of the biggest players in the American media. And then back in Britain, I was just

reflecting a moment ago on how quickly the new normal can be established. I think it's fair to say.

And I say this with a modicum of caution because I'm also subscribing to the new normal without realizing it.

I think that what seems set to be published or what seems likely to be in the report we may never see into Pretty Patel's bullying of colleagues at the home office,

I think it would be a sackable offence in almost any previous administration.

In fact, and again, I don't know who could contradict this.

I suppose if you are a former Home Secretary and you're listening to this

or a former Cabinet Minister,

if you've been required to obey the Ministerial Code,

then do feel free to give me a buzz and tell me to give my head a shuggle

on this one, because people break the ministerial code all the time without losing their jobs.

Might well be your experience. It's not mine. I think this would be sandwiches wrapped in a

roadmap territory under any previous administration, any previous prime minister sitting on a report that found evidence his or her home secretary had broken the ministerial code would be hitting the road.

It even rhymes. You break the code, you hit the road. You odious toad. The problem, of course, is that Boris Johnson's cabinet is unsackable.
