Hello everybody and welcome back to the that time when podcast.

0:06.8

And today we are talking about that time when Mercedes were embarrassed at home and no we're not

0:13.7

talking about having your feet up on the sofa. Oh that was embarrassing wasn't it? So

0:18.7

none of that slipped over at home or something and no none of that was me. This has got to be one of

0:24.0

the most embarrassing moments for a team that was incredibly dominant. Shot Cara. Well welcome

0:32.7

Tom Bellingham the WTF1 founder is going to take us through everything that went on in the craziest

0:38.3

2019 German Grand Prix. And he can think of bonkers race. We put a tweet out and asked for

0:47.2

people's favorite races of the last 10, 15 years which we cover on this. And even though this is

0:53.4

only three years ago, this was easily the most popular suggestion. So we thought we'd throw

0:59.9

back to this one. Why not? Throw back. So what was F1 like in 2019 everybody like how can we

1:07.4

forget? Mercedes were really really really really really really quick. Okay. However they weren't the

1:13.6

only quick car that year because Ferrari was so with their naughty engine particularly good.

1:21.2

Yeah. But they didn't deliver did they? No it sounds all too familiar for those listening

1:27.5

in 2022. Ferrari had a very quick car. The points gap didn't really tell just how quick that Ferrari

1:35.8

was. If you think back to testing in 2019, people were saying you know this is Ferrari's year they

1:42.2

were really quick and Charlotte put it on pole a few times and they genuinely looked like they

1:47.1

could be up there. But Mercedes being Mercedes, they did just deliver all the time. And I don't think

1:55.6

they had a more dominant car than they did in those kind of 2014, 15, 16 days certainly not

2:04.6

nowhere near as dominant. It was still obviously very good and they're very quick. But they ended up

2:09.6

getting one, two and pretty much all the first five, six, seven, eight races. I think it was so. Yeah,

2:15.5

it was more the fact that helped certainly by Ferrari being very quick and not delivering the goods

2:22.1

wherever we heard that before. Oh thanks Tommy. Thank you so much. I thought we were throwing back.
