Today we have a special edition of The Big Ben Show, one in which we talk about things that are a little outside the normal pattern for us when it comes to discussions here.

And that's, of course, two of the things that you will be enjoying,

I hope, over the course of the next couple of days. Good food and football. And I want to talk

particularly about the football aspect of this, because I had the experience recently of flying

to first in terms of the football experience, and that was a

football game in Madrid, Spain that was hosted there by technically the Miami Dolphins,

with the Washington commanders coming as sacrificial lambs across the way.

It was an interesting experience for a number of different reasons,

but it also, I think, gave an opportunity to see how much the NFL is interested in essentially

becoming the major export of the United States when it comes to culture and sports. We've seen

in recent years, and particularly in this year, the mantra of Hollywood

that was survived till 25, ultimately just crash and burn. There's been such a decline in the

effectiveness of cultural exports that come from Hollywood, that we've now reached a point where it is relatively

routine for weeks to go by without any major movie release, where you have a downfall in the

box office numbers that just seems truly unprecedented. And the release of movies and TV shows
