| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the intersection of faith and culture. |
| 0:08.8 | We're glad you joined us today on the wall builder show. |
| 0:10.9 | Rick Green here with David Barton and Tim Barton. |
| 0:13.4 | And we've got some good news to share with you today, |
| 0:15.2 | even though it's not good news Friday. |
| 0:16.5 | So we're going a little out of turn, |
| 0:17.8 | but it's just a great news program today dealing with education and dealing with getting some good stuff back into, yes, public school classrooms. |
| 0:27.4 | So we've got a great interview for you a little later in the program with a member of the State Board of Education in Texas. |
| 0:33.2 | And I guess, guys, we probably ought to start with just a little bit of education about what the state board of education is. Not every state's the same, but a lot of them do have a state board of education. And just talk a little bit about what they do and their role. | 1:01.3 | So it's been, yeah, but that's still been a couple of years anyway. |
| 1:04.8 | So I've been through a couple of those races. |
| 1:06.5 | The state board really is super important in Texas because Texas is one of the two states that does |
| 1:12.0 | drive the nation. Between Texas and California, you've got 24% of the nation's public school |
| 1:17.4 | students. So when those publishers get standards for English or math or science or history |
| 1:25.4 | or reading or anything, they really cater to those two states |
| 1:29.1 | because they're the two states that have enough schools that if they buy the product, then |
| 1:34.3 | those publishers are going to make their money back. If you take the standards for Rhode Island |
| 1:39.5 | or you take the standards for Maine or something else, it's highly unlikely any publisher's going to publish for those standards. And there are every one of the standards for Maine or something else, it's highly unlikely. Any publisher is going to publish |
| 1:45.3 | for those standards. And there are, every one of the states, they do have a Board of Education. Some |
| 1:50.5 | are appointed, some appointed by the legislature, some pointed by the governor, some are elected |
