Summary

What was supposed to be a celebratory holiday weekend turned tragic in Texas with some of the most horrific flash flooding we've ever seen.  The stories of loss are just heartbreaking and the stories of heroism are remarkable.    The Big, Beautiful Bill is in full effect and there are plenty of reasons to cheer.  But the biggest winner may be ICE which gets an incredible boost of support in this legislation.    Obama threw a wet blanket on Independence Day with a dark, dire, cynical post about our great holiday.      We have an NFL pre season game three weeks from Thursday... let's go.  And as the Chiefs get ready to open camp in a few days, it's clear quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have to play his way into shape after vacation photos of him shirtless hit the tabloids.      The Royals have won 3 of their last 4 but lost another game toward the wildcard.  And we'll tell you who made the All Star team.

But I don't think any of us envisioned this thing turning into what a devastating disaster it became for so many people in central Texas,

just an awful situation.

Let's start with a couple of the numbers here that I think are very important to understand

1:20.9

what it was that happened because everybody's going to want to try to place blame.

1:24.9

The total number of known dead at this point is 82, but there's a lot of people

1:28.9

missing, so it's going to grow. The sheer numbers of the rainfall are staggering. The average

1:37.9

rainfall in that part of Texas for the entire month of July is 2.1 inches. The record rainfall for July

1:48.4

in that part of Texas is 7.3 inches. That's for the entire month. On Friday and Saturday,

1:55.0

in one place, they got 13 and a half inches. So almost twice the record for the entire month happened in basically a 36-hour period
