Donald Trump releases an on-brand plan called opening up America again that gives governors

leeway to open up the economy as early as May 1st.

Governors are forming regional PACs, debating criteria to reopen slowly.

But a team of Harvard epidemiologists this week published a paper that suggests that if

we don't get this right, we could be looking at social distancing for another two years.

Thankfully, it looks like the rate of new cases is starting to level off in some of the

hardest hit communities in the country.

Though we've still had far too many cases and far too many lives lost, seeing the drop

off is heartening news.

That good news is because of all of us.

It's the direct result of our social distancing, slowing the spread of disease and giving

our healthcare workers time to catch up.

And of course, it's because of all of them, courageous nurses, doctors and hospital staff,

caring for people with COVID-19 under harrowing circumstances without even the basic supplies

they need.

But social distancing isn't the best.

It's devastating our economy and our lives.

However necessary it has and continues to be.

So when can we get back to the gatherings and celebrations and lunches and even meetings

that are the substrate of our lives?

And can social distancing end?
