According to a report from the information hedge fund Tiger Global,

writing down the value of its venture fund by 20% amid a slump in tech valuations,

It has certainly been a very volatile few years for Tiger Global.

That is the Hedge Fund, of course, founded by Chase Coleman.

After riding the tech boom over the last decade,

its flagship fund and long-only funds,

they recorded this is what Sarah was referring

to historic losses last year,

and mark downs they are still being measured

across its private holdings of tech startups.

As she said, the information reporting that Tiger is telling investors that a $12.7 billion venture

fund had a paper loss of 20% net of management fees as of December. I have some calls out. I haven't

confirmed the numbers myself, but what I do know is that Tiger was the most

active startup investor at peak startup valuations in 2021. It backed the most unicorns. It deployed the most

dollars moving ahead of even Soft Bank's Vision Fund. Now the biggest bets were in

enterprise software, FinTech, and crypto, all areas that have since gone through major

re-ratings the journal reports that in total Tiger marked down its private funds an

average of 33% last year erasing a total of $23 billion in value.

Now, VCs don't typically give this much detail

to investors about markdowns for private companies.
