| 0:00.0 | Hey, my parents splurged and got the Encyclopedia Britannica. |
| 0:04.2 | As best I can remember, though, because it was updated every year. World Book? Those two brands that did it. I can't remember it. This one had white binding. All I remember, though, is anytime I did you do like a book report or something, I was always so thankful we had encyclopedias. And then I realized how old they were compared to what the information was. You know, so it said things like, one day, man will land on the moon. |
| 0:23.2 | And I'm like, these are no longer reliable sources. That's the way encyclopedias were. I mean, they definitely were dated. But I put everything in there. If I had a $100 bill, I stuck it in one of those books. So what is the theory on that? In case someone breaks into the house? No, I just, |
| 0:37.7 | I don't know. |
| 0:38.4 | I don't know why I was doing it. Well, the theory on the baseball cards was because I wanted to keep them mint. Okay. So, you know, if I picked them up or back then, uh, the baseball card accessories were not available like as much so, like with the little sleeves and all the stuff. Yeah. the different things yeah you can put it in a photograph book but that you know it's a |
| 0:56.1 | getting on sticky and on crappy because it was one of those kind of things. Yeah, the adhesive. On the paper like that crap. But my mom threw all those books away and when she moved. And I thought, your mom doesn't throw away anything, but she threw away your books when she was moving a, she was moving out of a five bedroom home that had just been so. Oh, okay. So she was living there alone. That's the house that I was raised in. My brother, my sister, my stepfather lived there for a while. So, you know, she was just trying to do as much as she could. And she called me at one point in time of work. and I'm like, mom, there's nothing in there I need. Just whatever it is, get rid of it. |
| 1:30.0 | I don't care. |
| 1:30.7 | And then like maybe a year later it dawned |
| 1:33.3 | on me you know I was like oh my god she threw away all those books and I don't know what all I had |
| 1:39.2 | in there but I know like I had a stand unusual autographed baseball. I had Roberto Clemente's, Willie Mays. |
| 1:47.9 | I had almost all of these 71 rookies, Pete Rose, Tom Seaver, and a black card. |
| 1:54.5 | So all those are gone, you know, somewhere. |
| 1:56.6 | I mean, they're thrown into a – either they went to a bookstore or they were taken to the dome. |
| 2:00.5 | Did you ask her whether she threw them out? |
| 2:02.7 | Again, it was a year later when this all dawned. |
| 2:04.9 | Oh, right, right. So at that point in time, you know, it's just like, it doesn't matter. I'm hoping somebody at Goodwill's like, holy crap, man. Yeah. Right? Because I know I have one book that was just like every other page was like $5, $10. |
| 2:17.0 | Because that was like kind of my mini savings account. |
| 2:19.0 | Because back in the day, you could have a savings. I have one book that was just like every other page was like $5, $10, because that was like kind of my mini savings account. |
| 2:19.0 | Because back in the day, you could have a savings account, but when did you ever get downtown and go to the bank? Your parents never let you access it, right? So if you got $200, right, they're like, hey, we're going to put this in savings. You're like, cool. They never took you to the bank to go get you money |
| 2:36.1 | out of your savings account, ever. Now, as far as stuff being stolen for me, the one that crushed me |
| 2:41.2 | was my scooter because it was my form of transportation. I did not have a car. My wife had a car. |
| 2:46.7 | She used it to go to work. If I needed to use a car when I got home or on the weekend or whatever, yes, I had access to a car. But Monday through Friday, if I wasn't taking the bus and it wasn't running in crappy, I had that scooter. And I mean, the thing was, it was a 50-cc scooter. So someone basically just picked it up and threw it over their shoulder and probably walked off with it. And then, you know, so I report the scooter being stolen. And I told them, I was like, look, if you find the scooter, let me know, and I'll come and pick it up. Yeah. Exactly where it is. Let me know, and I'll come and get it. So I get a call from the UW Police Department, and they found the scooter in the U district. |
