1st Peter chapter 2 verses 11 through 17.

Beloved I beseech you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh that wage war against your

soul.

Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles so that in case they speak against you as

wrongdoers they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the Emperor as Supreme or to the governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and toze those who do right. For it is God's will that by doing right you should

put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.

Live as free man, yet without using your freedom as a pretext for evil, but live as servants of God.

Honor all men.

Love the Brotherhood.

Fear God.

Honor the Emperor.

My aim this morning and the minutes that we spend together in this message before we come to the

Lord's table is to inspire you to look at your job, your secular job.

The way you would look at it, if the Lord called you to perform that job, that very job, as a tentmaker in another culture among an unreached people.

Now for some of you, the term tentmaker may not be a familiar technical phrase.

So let me put it in a biblical context for you.

You remember that the Apostle Paul traveled through the Roman and the Greek world.

He was preaching the gospel, he was planting churches, and some churches just voluntarily gave him money like the church at Philippi several times

right after he had left that church. Sometimes he very rarely asks a church to support his ministry, like

when he wrote to the church in Rome and asked for their help going to Spain.

And he taught very explicitly he thought it was right for a church to pay the salary of Christian
