Absolutely shocking scene in Tennessee today. We just saw the third of three votes on

expel, I'm going to take you through what happened the day, but just so you know what's

happening right now. Three members were voted on to be expelled, two African-American members,

one white member. They expelled successfully with the two-thirds votes, the two black members,

and did not expel the white woman who was up as well. They just held that vote, kicking

out three Democrats for protesting gun violence. It started a week ago when protesters

descended on the state capital. They were calling for lawmakers to pass gun control legislation

after a shooter had killed three nine-year-olds and three adults at a private elementary

school in Nashville. The protesters made it into the gallery of the legislature. And those

three Democratic lawmakers, the ones that we saw today, Justin Jones, whose district is

in Nashville, Justin Pearson, whose district is in Memphis, and Gloria Johnson, whose district

is in Knoxville, went to the front of the chamber to join in chance for gun control. The

Republican speaker of the house compared their actions, joining the chance to the insurrection

is on January 6th. The individuals that stormed and ransacked the capital violently. He stripped

them of their access to the chamber and then scheduled a vote on whether to expel them

for what was essentially a violation of house rules, a move that was against the very fabric

of American representative democracy, and even President Biden weighed in, tweeting,

quote, three kids and three officials gunned down and yet another mass shooting. And what

are GOP officials focused on? Punishing lawmakers who joined thousands of peaceful protesters

calling for action. It's shocking, undemocratic, and without precedent. It was a point echoed
