Summary

This week has been full of reflections as I celebrated my ten year anniversary of moving to Paris. Life has changed dramatically in those ten years and building the Earful Tower has been a major part of that.

Little did I know, all those years ago, how much I had to learn about this beautiful, complicated city. It felt only right to contemplate upon what I have learnt over this decade and, to be completely honest, not all of it is totally positive. Acting as your "eyes and ears" in Paris has had its ups and down and now feels like the right time to share some of that on this week’s podcast.

This season of The Earful Tower is brought to you by the award-winning travel company My Private Paris, which specializes in tours in Paris, day trips outside Paris, and travel itineraries. See what they offer here. This week's fun bonus included a chat about the most expensive street in Paris on the Monopoly board game.

Hello, everybody, Oliver G here from the Earful Tower podcast where we dig deeper into the city of Paris,

0:08.3

where I'm your eyes and ears in Paris.

0:11.9

These are kind of taglines that I put together after reading some of the really lovely comments on my social media posts this week,

0:22.3

announcing that I've been living in Paris for 10 years exactly.

0:26.8

And then lots of you guys put really nice messages, and it got me thinking,

0:30.8

what is it that I do?

0:32.3

And how can I put an accurate tagline?

0:35.8

But it also got me thinking about after 10 years in Paris, what have I learned?

0:39.4

So this episode is going to be me telling 10 things that I've learned after 10 years in Paris.

0:47.1

Given when you learn things, when you go on a bit of a journey like this,

0:51.2

it means you're usually overcoming obstacles.

0:54.1

So a fair warning, I think, that some of these

0:57.3

aren't, you know, they're not all 10 positive things. They're not all like, oh, if you go to the

1:03.4

supermarket at 7 p.m, you get cheaper croissants or something. It's not like that. These are

1:07.6

obstacles that I've overcome. So it's a bit of, I don't know, I don't want it to

1:12.2

sound like I'm complaining. I certainly don't want it to sound like I'm bashing on this city or

1:16.7

this country that I love so much. It's just, these are 10 things that I've learned. At the end of

1:21.4

the episode, you'll hear from one of the founders of my private Paris who are sponsoring this whole

1:26.1

season of the Eiffel Tower.

1:33.2

And speaking of learning things, I had no idea, if you play French Monopoly, I had no idea which is the most expensive street. And so you're going to hear at the end a little chat

1:39.7

about the most expensive street in Paris according toopoly, and what you can find there.

1:45.2

More on that at the end, my private Paris tour company in this city and beyond.
