0:29.4	There's a familiar scene that I assume, you know, plays out thousands of times every day around the world.
0:31.0	It's when a flight attendant stands up towards the front of the plane and starts to go
0:36.2	through the little spiel.
0:38.3	I was a couple weeks ago on a plane, and I heard that little spiel differently because of the people
0:43.9	sitting in front of me. So right in front of me was this mom with her toddler-aged daughter,
0:49.6	and she, age three or four, would peek up over the seat at me while the flight attendant is talking,
0:55.4	and she has her pigtails in a bit, not the flight attendant little girl, but I had pigtails, big smile, and I'm grinning back at her. And then I hear the flight attendant say something that I've heard, I don't know how many times, but this time, because of who was in front of me, I heard it differently. The flight attendant said, in case of emergency, secure your own oxygen mask before assisting others. And suddenly, I thought
1:17.5	how impossible that request might be for this young mom with her toddler-aged daughter.
1:23.8	How do you do that? When there's this turbulence and the masks come down from the ceiling
1:31.0	and you've got your helpless, adorable little girl there, you're supposed to put on your mask before
1:36.8	you put on her mask like that goes against every instinct. It wouldn't feel right. It feels like I need to
1:43.1	take care of her and then I can take care of me.
1:46.7	But on every flight, they remind you of, in case of an emergency, secure your own mask first.
1:52.8	Because the reality is, if you can't breathe, you can't help anybody else.
1:59.1	Like if you run out of oxygen, then you can't do anything to help the people you're with.
2:02.6	So you need to take care of yourself.
