Welcome to our daily rosary meditation. Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Let's call to mind to all those we've promised to pray for.

We've been learning and meditating upon the cardinal virtues, prudence, justice, and fortitude.

And now we come to the fourth and last cardinal virtue, temperance.

But what is temperance?

Throughout our lives, we will all have struggles against temptations

for what we know to be detrimental to ourselves and others.

Temperance is the virtue which counteracts these temptations.

The Catechism tells us,

temperance is the moral virtue that moderates the attraction of pleasure

and provides balance in the use of created goods.

It ensures the will's mastery over instincts and keeps desires within the limits of

what's honorable. And if you can't remember that verbatim, temperance is the virtue that keeps us

from doing what is wrong even when we really want to.

So temperance controls our disordered desires for pride with humility, envy with goodwill,

anger with meekness, greed with detachment and generosity, gluttony with moderation, and lust with charity and chastity.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallow would be your name.

Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us to stay our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us,

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, amen.
