Telegram, one of the world's biggest messaging apps, hits back at its

founder's arrest. Hello, you're listening to the Marketplace Morning Report and

The messaging app, telegram has condemned the arrest of its billionaire founder,

Pavel Durov in France.

Telegram says it follows EU laws and calls it absurd to blame

Durov who was born in Russia for misuse of the platform.

The company has faced criticism for not cooperating with

investigations into drug trafficking, child abuse images and fraud.

The BBC's Pierre Antoine Deney reports.

The European Union has been for months now trying to put together and

a news to their new digital services act and they're trying to create what they call a better online community around Europe

and actually France had a search warrant on Pavaldouroff for quite some time for this exact reason.

The insufficient moderation of the telegram platform, Mr.

Doroff is accused of failing to take steps to curb the criminal uses of telegram and the app is also

accused of you know failure to cooperate with the law enforcement over drug

trafficking over child sexual content and fraud Now telegram did say in the statement that their

moderation is within industry standards including the Digital Services Act that I mentioned

and they are constantly improving before of course saying

that it is they believe it is absurd to claim that the platform or its owner are responsible

for abuse.
